Everyday, on my way to and from class, I would pass all types of people at the Pennsylvania Arts Festival. I would longingly watch them casually walk past the venders, downing their cups of ice cold hand squeezed lemonade and their mouth watering cinnamon sugar glistening soft pretzels. I had promised myself that I would stop at least one day that weekend to enjoy the festival. Friday and Saturday evening came and went and I had too much on my to-do-list to stop by, but I still had Sunday.
Sunday came and my roommate, Lacey, and I decided to run some errands before stopping by the festival. When we got to the Arts Festival we went strait to the lemonade stand. As we walked towards the downtown end of the festival I grew very sad because most of the vendors were packing up. It made me very depressed to see the protective packaging being unpacked from its boxes and carefully strewn round the pieces of pottery, oil paintings, sculptures, and drawings. As I walked on my way to get lemonade, something I have been craving all week, I sympathized with the tired looks of the artists.
Lacey and I finally found the lemonade stand and paid for our cups of highly sugared lemon water with the lemon peal submerged in it. On the way back the once dense and congested streets of University Park Campus were beginning to look more like a ghost town. It would be one year till I would get another opportunity to see the variety of artist and the many palettes of color on my walks of the campus sidewalks again.
Nicole, I am very sorry you were not able to experience the thrills of Arts Fest. I really enjoyed your blog though. You used a lot of description. It made me feel like I was there with you. The lemonade looked delicious and I was very upset that I did not get a chance to try it. I hope you get a chance to see Arts Fest next year. It is definitely worth seeing.
ReplyDeleteThis was a great description. I saw and felt (i'm hoping) what you intended the reader to feel -- very hopeful, yet sad in the end... sorta.
ReplyDeleteAnyway, its also nice to read this from the viewpoint that you had, since you only got to see the end of it while everyone was packing up. Because most people saw it while it was still around and lively. I hope you get to see it next year
I really liked this blog, I could almost picture you walking around, you painted a vert vivid picture in my mind. I was the same way I thought I would get a chance to walk around Arts Fest but as it turns out I didn't. I was kind of bumed out but I had so much to do as well. I think it would have been really interesting and I think that great you had a chance to see at least a little bit of it!
ReplyDeleteI really love your description of Arts Fest as everything was being packed up for the night. You paint a very clear picture in my mind. I also had walked around while the vendors were packing up, and it was almost sad. They did however, take a lot of care in packing them up carefully.
ReplyDeleteNicole, I really like how you chose to write something different about Arts Fest. I wish you could have seen it, though! You’re descriptions were really detailed especially the phrase “highly sugared lemon water with the lemon peal submerged in it.” I think you accurately described the depressing atmosphere after all the excitement of Arts Fest faded.
ReplyDeleteThat's sad that you didnt get to experience Arts Fest!! Your description provided a vivid image of what you were seeing and feeling as the day ended. I like that you gave a different perspective and focused on one part of Arts Fest that no one really addresses. Overall good job!!
